The Main Materials of Aluminum-Based Printed Circuit Boards

Apr 19, 2026

The primary materials of an aluminum-based printed circuit board (PCB) consist of a three-layer structure: the circuit layer (copper foil), the thermal insulation layer, and the metal base layer (aluminum plate).

Aluminum Base: Serving as the foundational material for the substrate, aluminum possesses excellent thermal conductivity, enabling the rapid transfer of heat. This ensures that the heat generated by electronic components is dissipated promptly, thereby maintaining a stable operating temperature.

Insulation Layer: Typically composed of insulating materials-such as ceramics-this layer effectively isolates different sections of the circuit. It prevents short circuits, safeguards the safe and stable operation of the circuitry, and simultaneously enhances the electrical insulation properties of the aluminum substrate.

Circuit Layer: Generally made of copper, this layer leverages copper's exceptional electrical conductivity to carry current and facilitate the transmission of electronic signals. Furthermore, copper's excellent ductility allows for precise circuit routing, thereby meeting the requirements of complex circuit designs.

Through the synergistic interaction of these materials, the aluminum substrate delivers outstanding performance in terms of heat dissipation and electrical characteristics. It is widely utilized across a diverse range of electronic devices, providing a stable and reliable support platform for electronic components and contributing to the efficient operation of electronic equipment.
